Indications Cattle:
 
•For use in acute respiratory infection with appropriate antibiotic therapy to reduce clinical signs in cattle;
 
•For use in diarrhea in combination with oral rehydration therapy to reduce clinical signs in calves over one week of age and in young non-lactating cows;
 
•For adjunctive treatment in cases of acute mastitis, in combination with antibiotic therapy;
 
•For pain relief after dehorning surgery in calves.
 
Pigs:

•For use in non-infectious locomotor disorders to reduce symptoms of lameness and inflammation;

•For adjunctive treatment of septicemia and toxemia in farrowing (mastitis-metritis-agalactia syndrome) with appropriate antibiotic therapy.
 
Method of administration and dosage
Cattle:
 
Subcutaneous
0.5 mg meloxicam per kg body weight (equivalent to 2.5 ml of product per 150 kg body weight), single administration, in combination with antibiotic therapy or oral rehydration therapy, as needed.
 
Pigs:
Intramuscular

0.4 mg meloxicam per kg body weight (equivalent to 2 ml of product per 150 kg body weight), single administration, in combination with antibiotic therapy, as needed.
If required, a second dose of meloxicam can be given after 24 hours. 
Avoid exposing the animal to infection during use.When treating groups of animals, a draw-off needle should be used to avoid excessive penetration of the cork. The maximum number of penetrations should be limited to 20.
 
Withdrawal times
 
Cattle:
Meat and offal: 15 days Milk: 5 days 
 
Pigs:
Meat and offal: 5 days
 
Contraindications
 
• Impaired liver, heart or kidney function and bleeding disorders;
• Evidence of ulcerative lesions in the gastrointestinal tract;
• Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to one or more of the inactive ingredients;
• When treating diarrhea in cattle, do not administer to animals under one week of age.
 
Adverse Reactions
 
In cattle and pigs, subcutaneous as well as intramuscular administration was well tolerated;
After subcutaneous administration to cattle, only mild and transient swelling at the injection site was observed in less than 10% of animals treated in clinical studies. In very rare cases, 
anaphylactic reactions, which may be severe (even fatal), may occur and should be treated symptomatically.
 
Special Warnings
Special Warnings for All Target Animals
 
Treatment of calves with Melobeam 20 minutes prior to dehorning reduces post-operative pain. Melobeam alone will not provide adequate pain relief during the dehorning procedure. To achieve adequate pain relief during surgery, it must be combined with an appropriate analgesic. Not for use in dairy cows.
 
Special precautions for use in animals 
 
If any adverse reactions occur, discontinue treatment and seek veterinary advice. Avoid use in severely dehydrated, hypovolaemic or hypotensive animals requiring parenteral rehydration due to potential risk of renal toxicity.
 
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding 
 
Can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
 
 
Interactions with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction
 
Do not administer concomitantly with glucocorticosteroids, other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or anticoagulants.
 
Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes)
 
In case of overdose, symptomatic treatment should be initiated.
 
Storage conditions and shelf life
 
This veterinary medicinal product does not require any special temperature storage conditions. Shelf life of the veterinary medicinal product as packaged for sale: 30 months. 
Shelf life after first opening the immediate packaging: 28 days.
